This is a special concert. I live in Southbank on the River Yarra. Along the river promenade between Queensbridge & Princes Bridge are a number of restaurants. You wil see buskers outside those restaurants playing really good music, whilst passers by stop and listen and throw coins and sometimes notes into a guitar case or hat.
Amongst those buskers is a three piece band (sometimes with guests) led by a young bloke called Ben Fumi. Those guys make a good living from the busking and I’ll bet you they make more money busking in a night than they would from set concert performances. Nonetheless they are not just singers of popular covers (which you need to be for people to put bread in your jar), but Ben is a fine singer songwriter in his own right. This Albert Park night will be a mixture of covers and originals and promises to be a great night of entertainment.
Think Crowded House and the Finn Brothers and you have the musical and vocal style of Ben and his band. They do a lot of Crowded House and other popular bands. But they sing some pretty good originals. Come for a taste of Southbank Street at Albert Park Friday October 22.
