Here is a true voyage of discovery. One of Albert Park’s newest fans is a mad keen fan of Lighthouse and really pleaded with me to put them on at the Port Lounge. I had a listen, had a talk to the lead singer, and now I am a fan too .. a real convert. Think Colcannon, think the ultimate cover band (indigo Girls, Chris Isaak, Fleetwood Mac, Eva Cassidy, Eric Clapton, Leonard Cohen, and I could go on). And they have a lot of fresh material as competent singer songwriters. This will be a very special event.

When you vist their website you get a big dose of music .. I am currently listening to two of their albums .. really enjoyable ..

Lighthouse is a contemporary Melbourne Band which was established in 2002. That’s 8 years of experience although the principle members have been friends since 1996 so add 6 years of synergies. By now I reckon they just about have it together. They are the resident band at Essence Food Studios and believe me that looks like a MUST HAVE experience too .. come to Albert Park, get the feel of it, and then book in to Essence Food Studios .. from the website here is what happens. Get a feel for it at Albert Park on good luck Friday, August 13th, then go enjoy the Essence Food Studios experience.

You arrive at Essence Food Studio at 7:00pm sharp. You walk in to a beautiful setting – candles, couches, amazing colours and you are warmly greeted by one of the musicians. He offers you a glass of sparkling wine. You enjoy some gourmet cheeses while getting to know a few of the other guests. Shortly the music starts. You sink into a comfy chair, sit back and relax as you listen to the incredible sounds of the musicians, Lighthouse.

It’s time for the food so you are taken to a state-of-the-art kitchen. Bart Beek is the chef presenter and introduces himself. A luscious recipe has been cooked and is immediately served to you. As you savour each mouthful, the chef recreates the recipe right in front of you and through his incredible skills, knowledge and often crazy wit, you take it all in. A special wine chosen to match the recipe is also served. You watch Bart and you ask questions, trying to remember everything. He reassures you, all is well as every guest receives a copy of each recipe. Another wine is served.

Time for a break, you take the opportunity to chat to your friends, one of the musicians or the chef. Back into the lounge and again you find the comfiest chair just in time before the musicians play. Guitar, voice, harmonies – one of the musicians brings out his electric violin and describes how it is a made to order, one off in the world, and then he plays. You are away with the music again.

Back into the kitchen, two different courses, more fun, food, wine and giveaways. There are only 24 guests here, the odds of winning something are really high. And if you don’t, it doesn’t matter, there’s still so much more to enjoy.

What a night, what a sensation, what a sensual journey. You’ve already decided you’re coming back…. But will it be Mystical Moroccan this time or maybe The Secret Herb Garden…hmmmmm…???
