 Beth Nielsen Chapman 1

If you are going to a Beth Nielsen Chapman concert get ready to laugh and cry and, well, just fasten your seat belt! One thing you can count on is one great song after another and some fascinating stories woven in between them.

Nashville based singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman has truly embraced musical diversity.  From writing hits for other artists to recording her own, Beth’s passion, when you get right down to it is still ‘the song’.  She has penned numerous hits and written songs for many top artists including Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Bette Midler, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Michael McDonald, Amy Grant, Keb Mo’, Roberta Flack, Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings. Her groundbreaking ‘Sand & Water’, written and recorded following the death of her husband from cancer in 1994, was performed by Elton John on his 1997 U.S. tour in place of  ‘Candle In The Wind’ to honor the memory of Princess Diana. The UK release of ‘Deeper Still’ was voted “Album Of The Year” by the BBC2’s Terry Wogan.  Beth also released: ‘Look’, co-produced with the legendary Peter Collins, ‘Hymns’, a collection of ancient Latin hymns, and a DVD ‘If Love Could Say God’s Name’ recorded at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London with the London Oriana Choir.

Beth’s music has shown up on ER, Dawson’s Creek, Providence, Felicity and in movie soundtracks, including “The Prince of Egypt, ‘Message In A Bottle’, ‘The Rookie’, ‘Where The Heart Is’ an ‘Practical Magic’. Mega-hit ‘This Kiss’, ASCAP’S 1999 Song Of The Year, sung by Faith Hill garnered her a Grammy nomination and Nashville NAMMY’S 1999 Songwriter of the Year. Beth also received a special award by The Alabama Music Hall Of Fame. Most recently she was the recipient of The Distinguished Artist Award from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Along with her diverse musical accomplishments, Beth has survived breast cancer, is an environmental activist, a teacher of workshops and a lecturer on the magic of creativity, which she believes is a birthright of everyone…. Prior to heading ‘down under’, Beth Nielsen Chapman and the London Oriana Choir
joined Robert Plant in a unique, one-off performance at Abbey Road Studios on February 25th.  Plant headlined the fifth annual Sound & Vision, an event benefiting Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. David Gray and Newton Faulkner opened the show.

Over the past year while working on her new project ‘Back To Love’, Beth couldn’t understand why she was experiencing so much difficulty finishing the lyrics for some of the songs.  As it turned out, in the spring of 2009 Beth, in being checked for an inner ear condition had to have an MRI, whereupon it was serendipitously discovered that she had a benign brain tumor pressing into her left frontal lobe-the language center of the brain. She was successfully operated on the following week and her recovery was swift. Even before she left the hospital she was finishing the lyrics to those songs!   Rejuvenated and inspired, Beth is really looking forward to touring around the world with ‘Back To Love’, a collection of all new songs that finds her delving back into her roots as a songwriter mining for treasure- heart deep in the trenches of love and life. . .Beth has been invited to lead a series of Workshops for APRA and JMC Academies in New Zealand and Australia through April and Australian audiences will be given the opportunity to hear this exceptionally gifted artist at shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
