Well guess what? It’s actually true. I knew of Janette long before I met her. Not long after I first arrived in Melbourne in 1980 and started looking for all the good musical venues I would see Janette’s name on billboards and hoardings outside music pubs here and there. She was perhaps the name I saw most often, along with Brent Parlane and a couple of other very hard working musicians. But I only saw Janette for the first time a few years ago at one of Andrew Pattison’s wonderful music fests. Janette was mesmerizing, had a really good hold on electric acoustic guitar technique, had a wonderful stage personality and an intimacy you rarely find in performance today, which marks a truly great performer as opposed to a merely talented one.

Janette’s wonderful interpretations of “traditional” songs together with her lilting gentle Scottish brogue and twinkle in her eye make her one of the most engaging performers I know, along with Rose Bygrave and Marcia Howard.
