Emily Smart is a master craftsmaker of “rainy day” music. Typically consisting of light, breezy, and relaxing melodies created by subtle acoustic guitar. Smart’s songs are a balanced blend of genres, including acoustic, jazz, folk and pop. Despite the slight physical presence, Smart has an emotional inheritance in her vocals that is both simultaneously a soft whisper and a raging soul. Her lyrical intellect is stunning, focusing on love, longing, hope, regret and sorrow as her main themes. All this she delivers with the clear deliciate voice of an ethereal poet and the strains of shining pop. Emily’s beautifully structured songs boast uncluttered arrangements with surprising little moments.
On stage her presence is undeniably compelling. She has been described as having amazing charisma, wooing her audiences with lyrical embraces, spine tingling vocals and catchy melodies. Smart’s background in music and drama also provides her songs and performances with a light sense of theatricality. In a very short time Emily has managed to become one of South Australia’s most watched up and coming acoustic soloists - playing gigs at venues all around Adelaide. She also routinely performs as lead singer/guitarist of acclaimed rock trio Illicit Eve which has representation in Australia, USA and the UK.
Born in Adelaide South Australia, musician/singer/songwriter Emily has been songwriting since she was thirteen years old and was headhunted by a prominent record label, signing her first record contract when she was just sixteen. Emily plays a variety of instruments including guitar, bass guitar, keys and percussion, and but only recently came out of the woodwork to perform her solo compositions after years of playing in original bands.
Her debut solo EP ‘The Escape Plan’, supported by Arts SA and due for release in early 2007, has been described as beautifully crafted - with its outstanding, memorable and moving lyrics it is impossible to ignore Smart’s message. However, she describes her music as delicate, colourful poetry.
Self-produced, ‘The Escape Plan’ has already garnered praise from industry professionals in USA, England and Australia. Her sophisticated original compositions combine pop melodies with exciting rhythms and interesting quirks, while her lyrics communicate fragility, joy, interpersonal conflict, resilience and hope.
Passionately vibrant, Emily Smart, with her richly moving voice and charming music, is destined for stardom. Discover and enjoy the timeless and hypnotic experience as Emily Smart takes you through the emotional spectrum from joy, love, sorrow and despair in her debut EP ‘The Escape Plan.’
SAM LOHS

http://www.fruitmusic.com.au/meet/sam_txt.php
Melbourne based Sam Lohs has been a lead member of the internationally acclaimed and fiercely independent outfit, Fruit, who have recently celebrated their 11 year anniversary as one of Australia’s most popular touring acts.
As a lead singer, guitarist and songwriter, Sam also performs solo and has recently released her highly anticipated (and very beautiful) second solo album, ‘We Trip Over Things’, a fine addition to her first release, the gutsy ‘6 degrees’.
Sam’s stunning song writing and delivery is poignant, hilarious and engaging and is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell & Ani DiFranco. Sam and Fruit are strumming proof that you don’t need a hit TV series or serious multinational dollars to succeed. Like fellow troubadours The Waifs, John Butler and Ani DiFranco, Adelaide-born Fruit have taken the road less travelled, covering millions of miles and playing thousands of shows since 1996, raising roofs and winning converts across 7 countries.
In 2003 Fruit won the “Best Live Album” trophy at the Australian Live Music Awards.
Over the years, Sam & Fruit have shared stages with the likes of Jewel, Chris Isaak, The Indigo Girls, and many more. They have won over punters, selling out rooms and smashing CD sales records at festivals across Canada and in more than 30 US states.
A little on Sam’s background in Fruit: Fruit’s first studio release was 1997’s “Skin”; then they delivered “Shift Live” in 1999, “Here For Days” in 2001 and 2002’s award-winning “Fruit Live at the Basement”. They also contributed “Give Into My Love” to Stories of Me, the 2003 tribute to master tunesmith Paul Kelly, where they teamed up with ARIA winning producer Chris Thompson. “Here For Days”, which was recorded with UK producer Paul Gomersall (who has worked with George Michael, Phil Collins and Guns N’ Roses) climbed to the #3 spot in the Australian Independent Charts. The reputable AllMusicGuide described the album as “an excellent, chance-taking effort that deserves a great deal of attention”, likening the band to both Swing Out Sister and The Indigo Girls.
Fruit set a sales record at the WOMAD in Seattle, where they sold 680 CDs in two days. They also did a roaring trade at WOMAD Reading, the Vancouver Folk Festival, Bethlehem MusikFest, the Canmore Music Festival and the Owen Sound Summer Fest. In a musical climate where the word “independent” is tossed about a bit too freely, Fruit truly define independence from running their own record label to unloading their own equipment and to planning their own future.
Taking a well deserved year off from rigorous touring Sam is now sharing her solo talents in Australia.
EMMA WALL

Emma Wall is renowned for unforgettable melodies and impressive guitar work. Self-taught, her style of guitar is non-traditional, dynamic, percussive and impressive. Celebrated for her expressive stage presence and powerful lyrics, critics and fans alike emphasise Emma’s ability to engage her audiences with a stage presence that combines easy-going simplicity and thought-provoking content (as well as the occasional very funny joke). In addition to national touring, Emma tours yearly throughout Canada. She is gearing up for a new studio album soon.
